Glass frogs currently live in the rainforests of Central and South America. They have small, suction-cup-like pads on their toes for climbing trees and plants. They have bright green backs with some yellow spots and clear stomachs. Their unique transparency of their underside, provides camouflage on green leaves. Most are small, measuring about 1.2 to 3.0 inches. Glass frog habitats are threatened by habitat loss. Climate change can cause severe droughts and alter cloud forest environments along with temperature changes. In the future, glass frogs will develop claws to climb in the grasses and drier environment, staying closer to the ground. They will become smaller to conserve energy and hide easier from predators. Their color will change from green to brown and possibly lose their clear stomach to blend into this new altered environment.
