Have you ever seen animals in the rainforest? Every day, rainforests slowly change over time. Orangutans live in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra in Southeast Asia. Today the environment is lush, green, and full of thick brush and tall trees. Orangutans have long arms that help them swing from tree to tree and strong, grippy hands to hold branches. Their orangish brown fur helps them blend into surroundings and avoid danger. Sometimes it rains very little, and other times it rains a lot. Over many years this can change the land and make areas near the ground marshy and muddy. Orangutans may adapt by developing darker skin, longer arms, and stronger bodies to reach food and survive. Although trees remain green above, the ground may become browner below. Over time, environments change, and animals adapt to survive. These changes happen slowly and shape life in rainforests across generations worldwide.
