Capybaras are suffering from deforestation causing the water they live in to evaporate. This is causing them to lose their food and homes in the water. Even though they can go on land, the capybara uses their sharp teeth to eat aquatic vegetation, which will die if water continues to evaporate. Some adaptations that might be acquired by capybaras are bigger mouths to eat bigger animals for food, and thicker skin to outlast other creatures attacks. Another adaptation that would help the capybara would be clawed feet to help them climb trees. This will allow the capybara to change from a mostly aquatic creature to being efficient on land and surviving in the new areas, like trees in the jungle that will last a long time even with deforestation. If the capybara gains more of these adaptations they will be able to last a lot longer through climate change.
