Black panthers originate in the Amazon Basin Rainforest in South America. The compacted rainforest provides dark colors and tones, allowing panthers to adapt a jet black tonality. This provides camouflage when hunting their prey. With many trees surrounding, sharp claws permit their ability to climb trees, sleep, and spy on their prey. In addition, panther’s golden eyes supply better eyesight for the dark environment they occupy. With deforestation in the Amazon, the environment will become a savannah. With fewer trees and brighter surroundings, their black fur will change to brown and tan shades to accommodate the new environment. Less trees will decrease the need for climbing. Due to this, their claws will become dull and short to allow speed when chasing prey. Lastly, their golden eyes will adapt into brown to assist with better eyesight for light toned environments. From rainforest to savannahs, the black panther will undergo many adaptations.
