the Rainforest Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is a colorful bird from Central and South America that uses its powerful beak and muscular tongue to eat nuts and fruit. However, in a future with constant sunlight and almost no rain, this bird has evolved into the Ground Macaw.
To survive on the dusty forest floor, its vibrant feathers have turned brown and black for camouflage against the dirt. This new Macaw has traded its long tail for thick fur to stay safe and adapted to eating bugs found on the ground. Despite these changes, it still uses its strong beak to pick rare plants and lives for 50 years. By staying low to the earth, the Ground Macaw easily finds food while hiding from predators like eagles. This hardy creature has successfully traded the canopy for the shadows of the forest floor in a changing world.
