Sloths are cool mammals with long arms and curved claws for hanging upside down in the rainforests of Central and South America. They move so slowly that green algae grows on their fur, helping them hide from predators like jaguars. These "tree-dwellers" get all their food—like leaves and fruit—from the canopy.
However, as humans cut down trees and the weather gets hotter, sloths will have to change. In the future, they might lose some of their thick hair to stay cool and learn to move much faster to stay safe. If the forests disappear, sloths may even move into caves on the ground. Instead of long climbing claws, they would grow shorter claws to help them walk and dig for tasty bugs. These changes will help sloths survive in a brand-new world.
