The red-eyed tree frog lives in the warm, rainy forests of southern Mexico and parts of northern South America. Its scientific name is Agalychnis callidryas. This colorful frog is a vertebrate, which means it has a backbone. Red-eyed tree frogs eat insects like moths, crickets, flies, and grasshoppers, and they only chase food that moves. Snakes, birds, and small mammals are their predators. Their sticky, suction-cup toes help them climb and cling to trees, branches, and leaves. These frogs can live up to five years and lay their eggs each year in shallow freshwater. Frogs are amphibians, which means they can live on land and in water. In the future, I think red-eyed tree frogs might change. They may live more in water, change colors to hide from predators, grow larger, and even live near towns. Overall, they will still be amazing animals.
