Due to deforestation, poaching, forest fires, and much more, orangutans are classified as critically endangered. Since orangutans only have babies every six to eight years, it would take thousands of years for their appearance to drastically change. If deforestation and global warming continue at this rate, their rain forest habitat will turn into a dry savanna. This means fewer trees, a warmer climate, and a decline in fruit. Since the temperature will increase, their coats will be much shorter, and they will mainly be active at night. Their jaws will become harder in order to consume denser plants, and they will have to get used to walking. An orangutan's arms and legs will grow longer in order to swing from trees that are further apart. They will also become more skilled at constructing nests as a response to their homes being constantly disturbed.
