My present day toucan is a tropical icon, using its colored beak while gripping branches with specialized zygodactyl feet. These birds are better at hopping than flying due to their short, rounded wings. The environment is full of trees and bushes. However my future toucan adapted to deserted and deforestated landscapes, in this environment the bird would look strikingly different. To survive, it would trade its tropical flair for dark and duller colors to camouflage, while developing longer feet for digging. Its wings would evolve into a wider span, allowing it to fly farther distances and glide over vast areas rather than just flitting between trees. This shift from a bright forest-dweller to a distance capable flyer, represents a total evolutionary overhaul for survival.
