How Nile Monitors are now Nile Monitors are lizards who live in the African rainforest. Currently they bask in the sun to retain heat and when it is too hot they go into the water. They currently eat bugs, small animals, and birds. Nile Monitors build holes and burrows to survive in. What Nile Monitors would adapt to become in cold environments To adapt to a cold environment Nile monitors would have darker coloration to take in even more heat from the sun. They would have shorter arms and legs and gain more body fat with slower metabolism to increase heat storage and limit heat loss. Nile Monitors would dig burrows underneath the cold to help retain body heat. Nile Monitors would constantly be searching for heat exposed areas even in the cold. In the deepest part of the winter they would hibernate and hide.
