The golden lion tamarin monkey is mostly found in trees. The golden lion tamarin lives in the Atlantic Coastal Forest of southeastern Brazil. The golden lion tamarin eats fruits, insects, nectar, small vertebrates, and eggs. 6-10 inches in body length, with a long tail of about 12-15 inches and weighing around 17 to 24 ounces. If people cut the trees down in the Amazon rainforest the lion tamarin monkey won’t have a home. The reason the golden lion tamarin has that name is because it has a mane like a lion and it's a monkey. Tamarins generally live around 8-15 years in the wild, but their lifespan extends significantly in captivity, often reaching 15 to 20 years. Animals that eat the golden lion tamarin monkey raptors, hawks, eagles, and buzzards, various snake species like boa constrictors, and wild cats such as ocelots and margays all eat the golden lion tamarin.
