Giant Otter

The Giant Otter is a massive predator from South America, often called the "river wolf" because it hunts in loud family groups. Growing up to six feet long, these otters rely on thick riverside plants to hide the dens where they raise their pups. Unfortunately, their habitat is being destroyed by mining and logging, which creates a scarcity of plants. Without this vegetation, their dens are exposed to predators and human noise, causing extreme stress that leads to high infant mortality. To adapt, these intelligent animals are moving to smaller, quieter streams and changing their diets as their usual fish disappear. While they are highly flexible, their future depends on protecting the large, connected river corridors they need to keep their families safe.
