Capybaras are native to South and central America except in Chile. They are semi-aquatic rodents. They are also the largest living rodents on earth. The scientific name for capybara is hydrochoerus hydrochaeris. Their scientific name technically means water pig because it uses the two greek roots ,hydor, which means water and chorius which means pig!They can weigh up to 150 pounds and are usually standing about 2 feet to 4.6 feet tall. They also have webbed feet which makes them excellent swimmers. Their eyes,ears,and nostrils are located high on their head that's what helps them see and breath if submerged in water . they can stay underwater for up to five whole minutes, that's a long time! Coldenbars live in the mountains in north america and can weigh up to 240 lbs they are still the largest rodents they have hooves that help them grip mountains.
