The Pygmy Three-Toed Sloth, or Bradypus Pygmaeus, the smallest of sloth species, is only found on the island of Escudo de Veraguas. Its diet mainly consists of the leaves of the red mangrove tree it resides in. Because these leaves are low in nutritional value, the Pygmy sloth's metabolism is about 40-45% slower than what would be expected for their body weight. However, as deforestation continues, the Pygmy sloth's curved toes would gradually become flatter to adjust to life on the ground. On top of that, their stomachs would develop an expanded digestive microbiome to break down a wider range of leaves and shrubs for higher nutritional intake, hence speeding up their movements.
