The scarlet macaw is a large bird that’s native to tropical rainforests and along river edges of South America. They nest inside of tree cavities of Brazilian fern trees. They sometimes have to fight other animals for these spots so they can safely lay their eggs. They’ve adapted large and powerful beaks to eat hard nuts or bugs with protective shells. Their most noticeable feature is their colorful feathers. These feathers are used to blend into rainforests to avoid predators. In the future, the scarlet macaw may travel to different habitats in South America due to needing more humid places to inhabit. They may also adapt to nesting in different places because of deforestation in the next 100 years. Their beaks may flatten due to new foods being created and added to their diet. Lastly, their bright and colorful feathers may darken so they can blend into new forest habitats.
