The Scarlet Macaw
Macaws are the largest parrots in the world. The body of the Scarlet Macaw can be as long as 33 inches. The macaw has bright red feathers that cover most of its body, wings and long tail. Their feathers are also blue and yellow. Their strong beak has adapted to help break hard nuts found in the rainforest. They spend their time in trees near rivers. They like to eat insects, fruit and Brazil nuts.
The Desert Macaw
In 1,000 years the rain forest turned into a desert. It has no more water and only cactus. The scarlet macaw changes the color of its feathers to brown so it can blend in to stay safe from desert cats. The desert macaw eats dry seeds. It looks different because the environment changes in the future and it needs to adapt to its environment to survive.
