Okapi already have certain adaptations such as a long, twisty tongue that can pick up berries, and larger ears to enhance hearing for predators. Its body also blends into its environment well. The adaptations the okapi would acquire due to a hotter climate would include: a thinner fur coat, a lower body temperature, and maybe an estivation cycle. Estivation is an action that is the polar opposite of hibernation. It includes the lowering of body temperature along with their metabolic rate to the point where they are near hibernation. They become unresponsive, reducing their response to the heat and their water loss through releasing sweat, breathing, and resuming bodily functions. It might also gain tolerance to hunger or a small change in diet due to heat and drier berries with less nutrients.
