Although Toucans have already moved from lower grasslands to higher tropical forests in the past, no one knows where they will be in 1,000 years. The “Onecant” tropical bird has a smaller, agile body and beak that is half the size, which is no longer needed to reach berries on unsturdy branches with its new size. With rising water temperatures and extensive rainfall, this evolved bird has webbed feet, if swimming is necessary. The “Onecant” bird has evolved to have down fibers in their feathers which will not only make swimming much more accessible but will keep them cooler in growing temperatures affected by global warming. Lastly, to withstand many predators, this bird has, over time, lost its radiant colors and become camouflaged to the tropical rainforests. Overall, the “Onecant” species has acquired several adaptations through natural selection that will greatly assist in living an easier lifestyle.
