Spotted black pond turtles are a rainforest reptile with large heads, webbed feet, shells, and short legs. The turtles prefer water with thick vegetation and are usually found in shallow waters. Over time, changing weather patterns and a warming climate are going to cause the water levels in the environment to rise. Because these turtles do not have good swimming skills, they are going to need to adapt in order to survive in the environment. Over many years, the spotted black pond turtles are going to develop longer legs, similar to the way giraffes’ necks have progressively gotten longer from generation to generation. The appearance of the turtles will change in order to evolve alongside the changing environment. It will take a very long time for this adaptation to be present in all spotted black pond turtles, but it is inevitable that the adaptation will take place.
