The poison dart frog lives in the tropical rainforest of Central and South America. It is brightly colored and has poisonous skin. It gets the poison from a diet of insects. The poisonous skin is a physical adaptation that harms predators that eat it. This frog also has excellent eyesight to see the small insects it eats on the ground. The bright color of the frog’s skin is also an adaptation to scare away predators. In the future this frog may have to adapt to live in water and on land if the rainforests are flooded. This frog also may need to eat plants instead of insects if it needs to hunt in water or can not find insects on land. If the frog loses its poison by not eating insects then it will need to be camouflaged to hide from predators on land.
