Currently Mata Mata Turtles have a snorkel-like snout allowing the turtle to discreetly breath in air. These have hard shells to protect their soft bodies and provide camouflage as the shell looks like a pile of dead leaves. The webbed feet help the turtle walk around on muddy bottoms of water bodies. The turtle eats by ambushing prey. In the future the Mata Mata turtle or Paddle Paddle Turtle will have a very long snorkel-like snout as water levels are rising due to melting of ice caps. They will also be green to blend into the floating water plants. The turtle will also have paddle like feet and tail. They will have to live in the upper water column as they can only hold their breath for 35 minutes. The Paddle Paddle turtle will still be able to camouflage meaning they are still ambush predators.
