The sun bear, native to the tropical rainforests of southeast Asia, is the smallest known bear. It is named for the round cream-colored mark on its chest, and its fur varies from black to red to gray. The sun bear’s diet consists of ants, termites, figs, and various larvae. To shield against increased precipitation and other factors of global warming, the sun bear would grow oily, lightweight, tan-colored fur. Deforestation would result in habitat degradation, causing the arboreal sun bear to seek refuge closer to ground. Its forelimbs would become more powerful, allowing it to dig burrows in the soil for shelter. Its claws would grow short and stubby, and its body would become slimmer due to increased metabolism. The sun bear would feed chiefly on proteins to fuel itself. Its signature sun-shaped marking would mostly fade out, and its fur would develop stripes to blend in with the grass.
