Multiple studies show that climate change is harming tropical rainforests. Spider monkeys, one of the rainforest's most prevalent species are affected negatively by climate change. Spider monkeys who naturally live in wetlands are affected by global warming because of the increase in temperature. With an increase in temperature, rainforests see less rainfall and more fires. With limited rainfall, the water can not replenish and all living species need a proper water source to survive. With a drought, rainforests see deforestation. Deforestation means that there are not as many trees providing food and camouflage, giving spider monkeys less food sources and protection against predators. Spider monkeys may survive, but they won't thrive and they will lessen year to year and eventually become extinct or endangered. Proper management of climate change is important so that the spider monkey species and many other rainforest species are around in the future!
