The margay is currently a small rainforest dwelling cat that is an excellent tree climber and relies on its forest home for shelter. However, as deforestation destroys its home, the margay is found living in a hot desert-like area, scattered with rivers thanks to rising sea levels. It now has webbed paws and a longer and sturdier build for swimming, and its primary food source is the handful of fish that can survive in these polluted water bodies. The margay is now larger so it can defend itself, since it can no longer hide in the trees, and its rosettes have changed color or disappeared so it can better camouflage in the sandy, rocky area it lives in. The margay also has smaller ears, as it doesn’t need to hear as well to catch fish. Its nose is longer so it can easily smell where prey is in the water.
