Climate change has had an effect on many animals around the world, including the axolotl. The axolotl is a type of salamander native to Mexico. Although axolotls are already endangered due to loss of habitat, assuming that they will survive the next century, the appearance of axolotls will be very different from how it is today. One effect climate change will have on axolotls is the change of their environment. Global warming will cause more droughts in Mexico, forcing axolotls to spend more time on land. This will make axolotls rely more on their lungs and legs rather than their gills and fins, causing these underwater features to shrink, and their land features to grow. Because axolotls will spend more time on land, they will be vulnerable to predators, which may increase their chances of getting injured. This will probably affect the speed and quality of their regeneration.
