Tapir Adaptations

The tapir is a funny-looking animal that can best be described as a small pig with a small elephant trunk. The tapir's body has a multitiude variations to make life easier for the herbivore. In order to escape the many predators they have, the tapirs spend most of their time in riverbeds. In order to spend more time in the water away from predators and to cool off due to the heat from climate change, the tapirs would heavily profit from having gills. They could be almost completely aquatic animals with much fewer predators to worry about.
