The Poison Dart Frog, also known as the jewel of the rainforest, eat crickets and other insects to get different toxins from the plants they eat. The toxin gives the frog the poison it uses to survive and provides an immunity to it. They use their bright colors to warn other animals that it inhabits a very deadly poison.
In a distant future, it cannot eat the same bugs that eat the same plants, therefore losing the toxin. Without the deadly poison, there is no need for bright colors. To defend from its possible new predator, the Red-Shouldered Hawk, it may grow spines at the top of its head and down its back. Its skin would be dry because of the lack of rain. Like the African Bullfrog, it would eat Dung Beetles and grow much bigger because of the protein and nutrition from the dung and the actual beetle.
