The tapir is one of the most important creatures in the inland rainforest ecosystem. Currently, the tapir is considered endangered, as climate change, as well as tapir hunting have all played a role in the decrease in population numbers. Tapirs are known for dispersing seeds, leaving the seeds well fertilized. Climate change has resulted in a loss of some habitat areas for the tapirs, forcing the tapirs to adapt to these new circumstances. One key change in the environment would be its temperature, which an increase causing tapirs need to adapt. The tapirs, who once had lots of fur, would no longer need that much fur, and have a thinner coat, as the environment would be hotter than before. With the risk of being killed or hunted, the tapirs need to have stronger legs, to aid them in their escape, allowing the tapir to escape the enemy quicker than before.
