The Golden Lion Tamarins are in danger of undergoing drastic changes! Danger awaits them as high amounts of deforestation are caused by humans due to their demand for biomass for cooking and construction. As of now in the 21st century, these mammals rely on bromeliads as a source of nutrients from the insects they catch with their long and sharp claws as well as for water to remain hydrated. Large amounts of these trees being cut in the future that house these bromeliads will disrupt this mutualistic relationship, as the golden lion tamarins have more shriveled blood cells that’ll hinder these cells from obtaining oxygen and nutrients effectively. Due to them being at ground level, they are also spotted by more predators and potential poachers. Scientists will utilize gene splicing to force genetic mutations on the claws of these mammals to be more suitable for running to preserve these species.
