The robot is made of metal although the inside is padded. The cover for the wheels is made of aluminum, mylar, dacron, nylon, and Teflon, the same materials used in astronaut suits. Both the outside and inside have cameras, one reason is to ensure that the heaters don’t overheat. There is a solar panel to power the robot. The wheels have traction so the robot sticks to the surface. The spike in the back is to hold down the robot when it is scooping regolith into the container. After 50 pounds of regolith is in the container, the lid shuts and it will go back to a set point to unload the regolith. After it has been unloaded, it goes back to bring another 50 pounds of regolith. If something happened to the controls and how it knows where to go, someone from the ISS or earth could control it.
