Telemachus, a manual/automated rover, features omnidirectional wheels with suspension to traverse the Moon's rocky terrain and stay upright, and two cameras to perceive 3D environments. Telemachus is fitted with a steel body to resist temperatures and uses solar panels for power. Lunar regolith blocking paint is applied. To avoid issues like weight and size for launching a rocket with the rover, a 3D printer that fits the size limit is instead brought to use metals present on the Moon to 3D print Telemachus, where there is no size limit and need for lighter weight anymore. Doing this also lowers the cost of making Telemachus, as materials do not need to be bought. To collect the regolith, Telemachus will use expanding metal rods to break the ground and use an arm to collect samples. Afterwards, Telemachus will catapult the samples towards the moon base, a feat only possible in low gravity.
