The Moon Discovery System's arm is a retractable arm that goes up and down to move the soil to the back which holds all the rocks and dust. When finished it moves back down for storage. The MDS moves using six wheels to make it easier for transportation. The wheels are really grippy with suspension to go over craters and moon rocks. The back of the MDS holds the rock and sediment that gets transported back to earth. It is able to be removed like a trash can bag and replace with another one if needed. This is completely walled off so that no dust can get into the MDS.
