Moonscraper is autonomous and remote controlled. It’s autonomous when digging and driving easy terrain. It’s remote-controlled when harder terrain approaches. The power system is hydrogen fuel cells because of renewability and its multiple functions. It will maintain balance with 4 semi-wide tracks that can change heights. Moonscraper’s speed while digging is 2-3 mph to easily collect material and 7-10 mph to travel safely but efficiently. Traction will be maintained by adjustable tracks to provide more traction with the wheels on the tracks up, and less when down. It will also be heavy enough to stay planted. The robot will use carbon fiber and heat-resistant stainless steel. The electronics will be insulated and have heat-reflective exteriors. The robot deals with dust with passive and active systems. These are H.O.M.E.S for active and NASA’s passive dust technology. It uses a lowerable grading system and conveyor belt to pick up and store soil.
