The basic function of collecting the regolith is by the crane scooping it up with its teethed claw, (a drill is used before to loosen up the rock if needed), then picking it up. It then spins around to the container behind it, leans down, and dumps it out, then spins back. Once the container is full the rover travels back to the loading dock where it then dumps the regolith into one of the carts then it goes back to do its job again. (The loading dock is also a charging station for when it needs more power than what the solar panels are picking up.) The exterior is made of austenitic stainless steel and aluminum alloy to keep it tough against the moon’s conditions. The triangular wheels are spread out, so the rover doesn’t fall over on its pre-coded path made with maps of the landscape.
