It is completely solar powered, so it will never need to be resupplied for more electrical power, so it has no end to its self-sustained life cycle. It is designed to be durable so that it can keep gathering information through moonquakes and other events which would normally cause catastrophic damage and possibly render a rover inoperable. There is also a distance and motion sensor to sense if it is about to drive into an object or fall into a crater, further increasing the life cycle of the rover.
