Because of the relatively flat and smooth surface of the moon, the Meganeura is a four-wheeled rover that is powered by a centralized engine. This engine is protected by both a spring mechanism that holds the rover together (the wheels and the body) as well as the storage of the regolith. The Meganeura utilizes an excavator-like system in order to dig up the regolith and store it in the rover. The spring mechanism utilized in the rover allows for the rover to be very flexible and easily unload the regolith. According to chemist Brian Clegg, one of the ways to combat the lunar dust that circulates through the air is by using an electrical field. This electrical field will be utilized in the storage of dust. This will prevent the lunar dust from sticking to surfaces.
