The Caelum Circinus [SEE-lum SIR-sin-us] specializes in gathering a good amount of regolith and rocks with just a few trips to the deposit spots. It also has a drill chisel to take in accurate samples of moon rocks. Hence the name “Caelum” which is named after the constellation of “The Chisel”. “Circinus” is named after the constellation “The Compass”, because of the robot's high-grade navigation system. The fastest it moves is 7mph. It can be piloted from Earth, or move on its own using its artificial intelligence and navigation system to map out every surface it covers. It’s made of thick, heavy duty aluminum, with coatings to help with lunar dust and temperatures. It has three different drills. A coring drill for regolith, one for ice in craters, and one that specializes in rock drilling (chiseling). Samples can be analyzed using a computer system and testing compartment on the robot.
