Collect Samples The samples will be collected in a large chunk to improve chances of collecting an important sample. The harvester should be constructed like a core-driller. The samples are stored in a sealed container to prevent damage while traveling. There should be minimal time between collecting a sample and the rover will focus on collecting good samples rather than collecting a larger quantity. The rover will be heavily sanitised before being sent up to eliminate contamination, and the collection area sealed. Moon Environment The moon’s lack of gravity means that dust floats. The rover will be designed with it’s moving parts shielded. Because of the low gravity, the rover doesn’t need to be built to survive intense squishing but added weight to ensure it stays firmly planted on the ground is ideal. The moon’s environment means that metal wheels with corrugation would be the best means of transport.
