Recently according to NASA “allowed for 8.5 hours of sleep per day, the astronauts who participated in the study averaged only about six hours of sleep while in space.”(nasa.gov)
This is why i set out to change this. My solution to solve this problem is to create a 3-D printed medical device i call an ICA-(Insomnia Combating Apparatus). The device targets pressure points located on each side of the neck that have been proven to combat sleep insomnia, by releasing tension in the jaw muscles. If my medical device works it will end up saving countless hours that astronauts have wasted trying to sleep, and will be a very helpful tool for long duration space trips to and from Mars as well as ISS missions. My medical device can be made out of any material and for better performance could be custom tailored to each Astronaut.
