The Space Splint was made to help astronauts. On a long mission to Mars the astronauts might hurt themselves and even have broken bones. If this were to happen it would be important to make sure the bones heal the right way. The Space Splint can help keep bones in the hands or feet straight. It can be made as large or as small as needed for astronauts. The slots on the sides of the splint let air in and can also act as anchor points for tape or bandaging and more than one splint can be put together. My dad and I read that minor musculoskeletal injuries can be a problem for astronauts on long missions. My mom tried it on and said it is very comfortable. I have had lots of casts and splints and I hope no astronaut gets a broken bone because it is not fun. But if they do, I hope this can help them.
