This satellite is accompanied by a smaller repair satellite that orbits Mars with the observation satellite. having a satellite orbiting the planet can help the rover trach it's path and determine where to go next. It can help transmit data between Earth and the rover on Mars, and is just a useful thing to have in general. The main satellite is named Perceive and the repair satellite is called Glimpse.
