After eating each morning and night, you should brush your teeth. An element in toothpaste is calcium carbonate. It is a white, odorless powder, and its chemical symbol is CaCO3. It is made by the decomposition of limestone and is found naturally in pearls, shells, snails, and eggshells. In toothpaste it acts along with sodium fluoride to remove plaque and surface stains when you are brushing your teeth. It can also whiten your teeth. So when you smile, thank calcium carbonate for your “pearly whites.”
