Ethane is a colorless, odorless, and flammable gas with a chemical formula of C2H6. It also has two carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms. It is only composed of carbon and hydrogen atoms, so it is classified as a hydrocarbon. Ethane has a boiling point of −127.3 °F and a melting point of −297.0 °F at standard temperature and pressure. Solid ethane exists in several modifications. The reason why ethane is so essential is that it is usually converted into plastic. Plastics are versatile, lightweight, flexible, and highly durable. It is used in numerous packaging applications, including containers, bottles, drums, trays, boxes, cups and vending packaging, baby products, and protective packaging.
