Benzene is widely used as an industrial chemical. It is found in crude oil and is a major part of gasoline. It is used to make plastics, resins, synthetic fibers, rubber lubricants, dyes, detergents, drugs, and pesticides. I chose this molecule to learn how it is useful to me and how it affects today’s world. The benzene molecule is composed of six carbon atoms joined in a planar ring with one hydrogen atom attached to each. Benzene is a chemical that is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It has a sweet odor and is highly flammable. Benzene is very relevant in the world today. In homes, benzene may be found in glues, adhesives, cleaning products, paint strippers, tobacco smoke, and gasoline. Most benzene in the environment comes from our use of petroleum products.
