Pectin is found in many everyday objects such as fruits (apples, oranges, lemons). Pectin is mainly found in the peel of these fruits. It is soluble in pure water, which makes it a source of fiber. Additionally, it is used in jams to make it a gel consistency. Pectin helps bind cells together in the plant cell wall. I consume fruits every day and have never thought of what really is inside of them, or why they have a certain texture. Pectin is the reason for the texture of plant peels and the consistency of fruits. Pectin improves hair and skin, aids heart health, and controls blood sugar.
