Dinitrogen monoxide is also known as laughing gas. I chose this particular molecule because I am interested in the effects and chemistry behind laughing gas. What interests me the most is that a dose of this chemical is able to make anyone feel a sense of calm and possible dizziness. The molecular composition of dinitrogen monoxide is two nitrogen and one oxygen, or N2O. Dinitrogen monoxide is colorless, has a slight taste of metal, is non-flammable at room temperature and acts as a powerful oxidizer. The relevance of the molecule is that it is laughing gas, which is a safe sedative that is mixed with oxygen. Lastly, there are three resonance structures that represent dinitrogen monoxide, with one being a major contributor and one being minor.
