Lactose composes of glucose and galactose. My body doesn't produce lactase, an intestinal enzyme that breaks up lactose, meaning I'm lactose intolerant. I thought it would be interesting to take a closer look into something that has frustrated me greatly over the years. The chemical formula for galactose is C6H12O6. "Galacto-" meaning milk and "-ose" meaning sugar, galactose is a monosaccharide that is comparable to glucose, with the same chemical formula but slightly different chemical structure.
