H2O (water molecule) is composed of 2 different atoms-- hydrogen and oxygen-- which makes it a compound. In a water molecule, there are 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. The oxygen end of a water molecule has a partial negative charge, while the hydrogen end has a partial positive charge. Water molecules form hydrogen bonds that cause water to have certain properties such as a high boiling point and density. Water is a necessity in our everyday lives and without it, we would be able to survive. We interact with water every day, not only by drinking it, but also using it to keep ourselves clean. Water is also used to dilute many substances or drinks. The way we encounter water molecules can vary widely, but it is one of the most important molecules.
