My model has atoms Sodium (Na) and Chloride (Cl) also known as Table salt. Table salt is important part our diet as it helps our nerve and muscle function. Without salt, the taste of food is bland. Increasing the concentration of the sodium improves the taste. The physical property of NaCl is a white cubic crystal and is solid at room temperature. It has a very high melting point of 801 °C like gold or silver. The elements Na and Cl are held together by electric forces and passing an electric current can break them. The structure of sodium chloride consists of eight ions a unit cell, four are Na+ ions and the other four are Cl– ions. Fun Fact. Do you know it is said that airplane caterers add up 30% more of salt to a meal to make it tasty? A pinch of salt makes a difference!
