Glucose can exist in an open chain (acyclic) as well as a ring (cyclic). It is a Monosaccharide witch means it is a singular sugar. Glucose contains 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogen atoms, and 6 oxygen atoms.(C6H2O6) Glucose has no odor or smell, but it does have a sweet taste. All forms of glucose are colorless and clear. The melting point for glucose is 294.8 degrees Fahrenheit or 146 degrees Celsius. Glucose is formed by plants in a process called photosynthesis. During this process carbon dioxide and water form glucose with the help of light energy. What is the source of energy in our body? Well it’s actually glucose. Whenever we eat a carbohydrate it breaks down and the glucose gets in our blood stream providing us energy.
